Korba District was accorded the status of a District with effect from 25 May, 1998.The geographical extent of Korba District extends from 22’01’’ to 23`01’’ North latitude and from 82`01 to 83`7' East longitude. where the area of Korba District is 7145 square kilo meters and population is around 1206640 .The district comes under Bilaspur Police Range.
This District includes 5 tehshil/blocks are namely Korba, Kartala, Kathghora, Pali, Podi uproda and consists of 05 urban bodies. Korba, Katghora, Dipka, Chhuri, Pali with 792 gram panchayats. There are three S/D division of Polilce-Korba, Darri and Katghora and 16 police stations- Kotwali, Urga, Kartala, Shayang, Balco, Kusmunda, Dipka, Bankimongra, Darri, Katghora, Pali, Bango, Lemru, Pasaan, Ajak and Traffic Police station, along with 4 police out posts- Korbi, Morga, Hardi Bazaar and Razgamar.
Korba is a tribal dominated District surrounded with by dense forest, where the name Korba is originated form its original tribe “Korwa “, Korba maintains its identity on National and International level for Coal Mines, Power Generation, and Aluminium Production. Major industrial undertakings such as NTPC, SECL, CSPGCAL and BALCO are established in Korba District.
“Minimata Hasdeo Bango Project “ is famous dam on the Hasdeo river in Korba District, The Mahamaya Temple of Chaitur Garh, Shiv temple of Pali, Madwarani, Shiv temple of Tuman are the places of ancient historical importance, and major tourist attractions. Devprahari, Satarenga, Booka, are places of natural beauty and site seeing.
Being an Industrialist town with various townships, attracts residents from various parts of the country. On average, 3000 crimes are registered every year with cases of road accidents being the highest. Highest number of crimes are lodged in Kotwali Police station and the least at Lemru Police station.
